Galveston, Texas, has become one of the most popular cruise departure ports in the United States, especially for travelers from the Southwest. With year-round sailings and easy access from major airports and mild weather, cruises from Galveston offer convenient escapes to the Western Caribbean, Eastern Caribbean, and beyond.
This complete guide to Galveston cruises covers the best options for 2026 and 2027, including top ships, current pricing, schedules, and essential planning tips.
Why Choose Cruises from Galveston?
Located just 50 miles south of Houston, the Port of Galveston is the fourth-busiest cruise port in North America. It recently unveiled its 20-year master plan, approving $2.4 billion to expand on three additional cruise terminals, multiple parking garages, and up to three new hotels near the Seawall waterfront.
- Multiple modern terminals, with Royal Caribbean and MSC being the newest ones.
- Ample parking (over 5,000 spaces) and hotels for pre and post-cruise stays.
- Proximity to Galveston’s beaches, historic district, and Pleasure Pier
Whether you’re a first-time cruiser or a seasoned traveler, Galveston provides stress-free boarding and is a favorite vacation destination for Texans (and non-Texans) alike.
Galveston is becoming one of my favorite ports to cruise out of. Once you’re in Galveston, you start feeling the vacation vibes even before you board the ship!

How to Get to Galveston from Houston
Houston has two major airports, Bush International Airport (IAH) and Hobby Airport. (HOU). The closest one to Galveston is Hobby Airport, only 28 miles. There are shuttle buses to the cruise terminals, Galveston Express and Royal Galveston Shuttle. It takes about 60 minutes and services cost around $35.00 per person. Uber and taxis are also available but tend to be more expensive. Southwest Airlines is the main carrier servicing Hobby Airport, along with American Airlines, Delta, Allegiant and Frontier.
Bush International Airport (IAH) is the main international airport. It’s 80 miles north of the port and can take up to two hours by car, depending on traffic. If you’re flying into Bush, I recommend you come a day early and stay the night in Galveston. Houston is just too big and it can take you up to two hours from downtown to get to Galveston anyways. There’s plenty to see around Galveston and the hotels are 8-10 minute drive from the terminals.
Make sure you check your cruise terminal as there are four in Galveston.
Top Cruise Lines and Ships from Galveston (2026–2027)
All of the Galveston Cruises stop at the Western Caribbean ports-Mexico, Honduras and Belize. These are 3-7 day cruises, although seasonal cruises can be up to 10 days long and travel to Jamaica, Panama and Costa Rica (Starting in 2027). and
Carnival Cruises remains the dominant player with weekly departures. Popular ships include: The Carnival Jubilee, Carnival Dream, and Carnival Breeze. As a budget-friendly cruise line that caters to the young and the young at heart, I recommend sailing on Carnival in the shoulder seasons, when children and teenagers are in school. You’ll get a much quieter experience at budget prices.
Royal Caribbean brings impressive mega-ships like Symphony of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, Mariner of the Seas, and Liberty of the Seas (starting in late 2026). Their larger ships are a destination in themselves. As always, avoid school holidays for a quieter and more budget-friendly experience.
MSC CRUISES USA started sailing out of Galveston in November 2025, with their beautiful ship the MSC Seascape. MSC has very affordable prices and is excellent value for seniors and families alike. With multiple peaceful lounges and enrichment programs, MSC is fast becoming a favorite for seniors sailing out of Galveston.
2027 will see the return of the Norwegian Viva sailing in the Western Caribbean, and the Norwegian Escape with a slightly longer 9-day itinerary to the Cayman Islands and Jamaica. The Disney Magic will also return, sailing through the Panama Canal and ending in San Diego, as well as offering shorter itineraries in the Western Caribbean.
Popular Itineraries from Galveston
Most itineraries are 4 to 7-night Western Caribbean cruises that balance relaxation with light port exploration. Seasonal itinerary options to the Panama Canal and Southern Caribbean are 9 – 14 days, with several sea days.
I love the shorter sailings that offer gentle sea days perfect for reading, relaxing by the pool, or just enjoying being out at sea.
Sample Pricing (per person, double occupancy, interior or Oceanview cabin:
- 4-night: $350–$650
- 5-night: $400–$750
- 7-night: $650–$1,400+
Many lines offer senior discounts and early-booking savings. If you’re traveling solo, check for special solo discounts.

Galveston Cruise Port Guide
- Easy drop-off and luggage handling- be sure to attach your luggage tag outside and an Apple Airtag inside in case it gets lost somewhere.
- Wheelchair assistance available. You can rent wheelchairs and scooters at the port.
- Hotels near the port with cruise parking packages or transport to the terminal.
- Because Galveston is 70 miles from Bush International Airport (1-2 hour drive depending on traffic), consider arriving the day before your sailing to avoid any last-minute stress. If possible, book your flight to Hobby Airport, only 41 miles (50 min. drive).
- Make Galveston a destination in itself. Stay 1 or 2 days to enjoy the many restaurants, haunted house tours, and cute shopping areas.
- If you’re driving and need to park your car, The Port of Galveston charges flat package rates based on the length of your cruise. Economy lots offer free shuttle service and prices begin at $20.00 Covered parking close to the terminal can cost up to $35.00 per day. (2026 rates)
